This 1.6 acre site is comprised of two separate parts: the cleared and vacant former Trees public house site and an existing residential hostel building of circa 80,000 square feet.
The site’s location is a prominent gateway intersection just to the south of the city centre.
Development proposals are being worked up for a circa 600-bed student scheme on the Trees site, up to 22 storeys in height, with active uses at ground floor and public realm improvements.
Birmingham has over 65,000 students and the University of Birmingham, by far the largest of its five universities, is just a 20-minute walk from the site.
Proposals for a residential-led redevelopment of the adjacent hostel site are also being considered for when the existing hostel use comes to an end.
Birmingham City Council planning officers have already approved the principles of the scheme and a planning application will be submitted by the end of 2018.
